Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has applauded the peaceful and equitable conduct of congresses for the three-per-Ward ad-hoc delegates election across the State.

He stated this while speaking at the QIC Group School, Awa Iman, in Onna, where he joined other members of the PDP in Awa Ward 1 for the exercise.

2022 UTME: Candidates Can Now Print Notification Slips, Says JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed all candidates who registered for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to start printing their 2022 UTME notification slips from Saturday.

JAMB’s Director of Information and Technology Services, Mr Fabian Okoro, made the announcement via a statement released to JAMBULLETIN ahead of this year’s exercise.

According to the statement, the 2022 UTME notification slip is available for printing by all candidates who registered for the examination scheduled to hold from May 6 to 14.

Okoro stressed that the printing of examination notification slip was compulsory for all candidates, as it enables them to know the venue, date, session and time of their examination.

Todays post is about 2nd chances

Today is the last day of the last month of me being single as I marry my baby next month. I was married before and have 2 girls (I used to post about my girls but as more eyes came to my page I stopped because as a father, protecting is my job). After 8 years of marriage (I got married at 26) we filed for a divorce in 2018. We were young and made mistakes and I had struggled with bouts of depression. 2018 was my toughest year ever! Requesting a divorce was one of the toughest things I ever did but it was about survival. I am not accusing anyone… just speaking about my own struggles as a human being. Suffice it to say that my life has been the stuff you read about in books and I kept it all inside. Only those in my inner circle know my story and perhaps one day I might write about it.

Now back to 2nd chances. Coming out of my earlier situation I never believed that I would remarry. I was wounded and hurt. I first reached out to Ini after we had commenced our divorce process via DM (we all know that story) but never met her in person till sometime in 2019. We started talking as friends and eventually started dating in the second half of 2019. (I remember when I told her about the circumstances of my divorce, her response was “that’s your version but I’m sure there’s another version that’s equally true”). But wounded people wound people. And every time I saw we would get close I would end the relationship because I was afraid of committing. Yet when I was away from her I couldn’t function. This happened a few times and ultimately I had to seek professional help with a clinical psychologist to deal with my past trauma. What became clear to me was that she was my 2nd chance that I never thought I deserved. And I always functioned better whenever she was in my life.

Well maybe I’m sharing too much, but I have now received a lot of healing and continue to be healed. And as the good book says, “love covers a multitude of sins”, and her love for sure is healing me daily. Ini I am looking forward to saying “I do” in a few weeks time. Thanks for the second chance.”

2023: Smart Adeyemi Picks Senatorial Form

Senator Smart Adeyemi of Kogi West Senatorial District has gotten his nomination forms ahead of the APC senatorial primary.

Adeyemi picked up the forms at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, according to a statement sent by his media office on Friday in Lokoja.

Speaking to journalists at the International Conference Centre Abuja, shortly after collecting the form, the three-time senator said, “Within the context of a prosperous Kogi West and a sustainable future for Kogi State, our legislative agenda shall focus on people-oriented programmes that would positively and fundamentally alter the developmental landscape of the senatorial district.”

Fayose: I’ll Appoint Minister Of Stomach Infrastructure If Elected President

Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has stated that if elected president of Nigeria, he will appoint a “Minister of Stomach Infrastructure.”

“Stomach infrastructure under my watch as president of Nigeria, will be a major theme.

FG To Procure Aircraft To Fight Bushfires – Aregbesola

Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior, has revealed that the federal government intends to purchase aircraft for the Federal Fire Service’s six zonal bases to tackle wildfires, bushfires, and other large-scale fires that require aerial attacks.

Aregbesola said this during a ceremony in Abuja honoring the new Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Jaji Olola Abdulganiyu.

While asking the incoming FFS chief to live up to expectations, the minister stated that the FFS’ primary challenge is to tackle wildfires, bushfires, and other large-scale fires that necessitate aircraft operations.

He said: “We have initiated an arrangement with the Nigeria Airforce to use their planes to waterbomb fires of that nature from the air. It is my sincere hope that you will see this through.

He also said, henceforth, armed security personnel would be accompanying firefighters to fire scenes to prevent attacks on personnel and equipment by hoodlums.

2023 Presidency: No Decision Yet On Zoning, Says Adamu

Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that the party has not decided on the zoning of its presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Electoral Act: Your Election Can Be Annulled, Gbajabiamila Tells Appointees Yet To Resign

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has recommended political appointees seeking elected seats to resign, warning that if they refuse, their elections may be nullified.

On the sidelines of a paper he delivered at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, he made the call to Channels Television in London on Thursday (Chatham House).

He believes that Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022, which requires political appointees to resign before running for office in the following election, should be followed.

“There was a reason for every law. And that particular provision had a reason behind it,” the lawmaker said. “It had mischief it sought to cure and we all know what that mischief is.”

While some appointees have followed the provision, he said others “remain obstinate for want of a better word and hide under the cover that there is a court decision that has nullified that provision.

“But then, there is also a court decision that said that nullification by the court should not be executed as of yet. Then, there has also been an appeal by the National Assembly to set it aside.

“So, invariably, it is a personal decision that they have to make. Therefore, the risk they run at the end of it all is if the court does find that the National Assembly was well within its rights to make such a provision that you are contesting an election while still a political appointee, then you are on a very serious risk of having your election bid annulled”.

2023: I Will Quit Politics If Jonathan Joins APC To Contest For Presidency – Vatsa

Mr. Jonathan Vatsa, a senior member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has threatened to leave politics if former President Goodluck Jonathan joins the party to run for president in 2023.

The former Niger State Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism made the remark while speaking with Channels Television on Thursday in response to reports that Jonathan is planning to run for president under the ruling party’s banner.

“I pray it is a mere rumor or fake news; but if former President Goodluck Jonathan accepts to contest the forthcoming election and under APC, then I will agree with a former governor, who once said there is no morality in politics. I will not only leave the party, but I will also quit politics and go back to the farm,” he said.

He said he is aware that the ruling party is desperate not to allow the power to return back to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.

For him, “after our seven years of a disappointing performance in all aspects, the option of Jonathan should not be on our table”.

The former Publicity Secretary of the party in Niger State pointed out that the APC lied to Nigerians in 2015 in a desperate move to get the power by all means.

Such moves, he said, included the threat of violence which has now divided the country along ethnic and religious lines, adding that “this country has never been so divided as it is today”.

Missing Abuja Corps Member Found Dead

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Abuja, Stephanie Se-Ember Terungwa, has been found dead.

She was reported missing before her corpse was found in Abuja. The NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Megwa said the corpse was found in NYSC Khaki trouser with “the face defaced beyond recognition.”

He, however, said investigation had commenced to unravel the identity of the perpetrators “of the dastardly act in order to bring them to justice.”

The statement read, “The attention of NYSC management has been drawn to the pictures making the rounds in the social media of a missing corps member deployed to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“The corpse was found wearing the NYSC Khaki trouser with the face defaced beyond recognition.

“On account of this, management reported the discovery to relevant security agencies to help identify the body. It was later confirmed that the remains was that of a missing corps member, Stephanie Se-Ember Terungwa, with State Code Number FC/21B/5807.

“Investigations are, however, currently on-going to unravel the identity of the perpetrators of the dastardly act in order to bring them to justice. May her soul rest in peace.”

Reactions As Tweep Asks Elon Musk To Buy Nigeria

The Twitter space was set on fire last night when a user of the micro-blogging platform asked the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, to buy Nigeria.

The Tesla founder had two days ago sealed a deal worth about $44bn to buy the Twitter platform from the founder, Jack Dorsey.

A day after, Musk twitted, “Next I am buying Coca-Cola…”

The tweet attracted over 128,000 retweets, 43,000 quote tweets, 673,000 likes and thousands of replies in less than one hour with.

But one of the classic replies was from a Nigerian user, Aji bussu with the handle @AfamDeluxo who asked Musk to buy Nigeria.

“Please, kindly buy Nigeria and give us 24 hrs electricity. Nwoke oma bikonu.”

The reply consequently set the Twitter on fire with many users supporting bussu’s call.

“Elon, would you please buy Nigeria,” said another user with the name, Sue_The_Bastard, adding, “It’s in  a good location with small mental problem.”

Another user with the handle, @TehilaBebia said, “Don’t buy Coca-Cola.  Buy Nigeria, we will allow it.”

But Ogechukwu Chime with the handle @OgechukwuChime expressed contrary view, saying, “Nigerians are wicked how do you advise a business to buy Nigeria, Nigeria is a bad product. If you are @elonmusk will you buy bad entity called Nigeria.”

“I wish Elon Musk can just come and buy Nigeria too,” said another user, @_Ewawunmi

But @Akebra7 faulted the call, saying, “Nigeria is the people. If you’re a Nigerian focus on improving things around your family first and if every family in Nigeria is successful, the country is successful. I love my country and I’ll fight for it. That should be the mindset of a Nigerian.”

“Nigeria is going to be great again l assure you thus says the Lord of Host,” a user, Neyo Mosquilano with the handle @murebaba wrote.

Soldier ‘Working With Boko Haram Fighters’ Commits Suicide In Yobe

Lance Corporal Jibrin, an instructor with the Nigerian Army battalion in Geidam, Yobe State, has committed suicide.

He took his life after he was arrested for allegedly conniving with Boko Haram insurgents who attacked Yobe communities recently.

Jibrin, who disappeared from his duty post few days ago, was said to have been sighted among the Boko Haram terrorists that attacked Geidam town last week.

Military sources said the soldier was tracked by army intelligence unit and was found in Gashua, some hundreds  kilometers from his duty post, on Tuesday.

“The Army authorities in Gashua were intimated and Jibrin was nabbed at a checkpoint after he  boarded a bus to Gombe and disguised himself as a civilian.”

“He was handcuffed and on interrogation he revealed a lot which led to the arrest of some of his collaborators.

“On transit to Geidam, he snatched a gun from one of his escorts, over powered the other and shot himself

When contacted Army spokesman headquarters of sector II operation Hadinkai  Damaturu, Lt Kennedy Anyewau, confirmed the incident.

He said ” Yes we received a report about soldier who committed suicide yesterday evening, and full investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to the incident. That is all I can disclose about the matter for now.”

But an officer who pleaded anonymity gave more details about the incident.

“It is true that Jibrin was arrested and he later killed himself, he was very skillful soldier, he was part us and upon realising that his moves became suspicious he disappeared.

“No wonder the last Boko Haram operation in Geidam shocked all of us because we had prepared for them but they took us unaware by using a new strategy different from what they are known for, they sneaked into the town silently without vehicle, and no sound of gun shot was heard.

“We suspected that they must have informants from within and after a beam light was set out the question mark falls on Jibrin,” the source added.

Amaechi To Imo APC: Everybody Will Be Protected If I’m Elected President

Minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has stated that every citizen will be protected if he is elected president of Nigeria.

Speaking at a meeting on Tuesday with Hope Uzodimma, Imo governor, and APC stakeholders in the state, Amaechi stated that he would be sincere to every Nigerian if he is given the opportunity.

“Give me this opportunity and you will see the difference. Trust me,” the presidential hopeful said.

“Once you give me this opportunity, I will be sincere to you and to everybody. We will do our best to make sure that the Igbos are protected, the Yourubas will be protected, the Hausa/Fulani will be protected, everybody will be protected.”

The minister said he has the capacity to solve the country’s security challenges.

“When I was giving those recommendations, I never thought I would go for presidential consultations, I just felt there was a need for balancing, because we are Nigerians, and if you see my team, it’s made of nearly every zone in the country.”

Over 12,000 Nigerians Benefit From Saudi Feeding Scheme

More than 12,000 Nigerians have benefitted from the 2022 edition of the poverty alleviation programme of Abu Bakr Al-Sidiq Philanthropic Home of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, Saudi Arabia.

The scheme involved the distribution of food items to needy Muslims and Christians in selected states in the country.

The president of the philanthropic home, Sheikh Abdul-Razaq Ibrahim Salman, while speaking at the conclusion of the exercise in Ilorin, described the event as a huge success.

He said the distribution was part of King Salman’s annual numerous relief packages around the world which featured beneficiaries in 19 countries.

He thanked the supervisor general of the scheme, Dr Abdullah Al-Rabeeha, for spearheading the initiative, and appreciated the support of Saudi’s foreign missions for the distribution exercise.

Over 8,000 tonnes of food was distributed while the programme lasted, with over 4,000 beneficiaries in Kwara, Kano, Abuja, among others.

In Kwara, the project started on April 5, with the official flag off by the deputy governor, Kayode Alabi, on behalf of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

China Detects First Human Case Of H3N8 Bird Flu

China has confirmed the first known human case of the H3N8 strain of avian flu, but health authorities say there is a low risk of widespread transmission among people.

H3N8 is known to have been circulating since 2002 after first emerging in North American waterfowl. It is known to infect horses, dogs, and seals, but has not previously been detected in humans.

China’s National Health Commission on Tuesday said a four-year-old boy living in central Henan province tested positive for the strain after being hospitalised earlier this month with a fever and other symptoms.

The boy’s family raised chickens at home and lived in an area populated by wild ducks, the NHC said in a statement.

The boy was infected directly by birds and the strain was not found to have “the ability to effectively infect humans”, the commission said.

It added that tests of the boy’s close human contacts found “no abnormalities”.

The NHC said the boy’s case was a “one-off cross-species transmission, and the risk of large-scale transmission is low”.

It warned the public to nevertheless stay away from dead or sick birds and seek immediate treatment for fever or respiratory symptoms.

Avian influenza occurs mainly in wild birds and poultry. Cases of transmission between humans are extremely rare.

The H5N1 and H7N9 strains of bird flu, detected in 1997 and 2013, respectively, have been responsible for most cases of human illness from avian influenza, according to the US Centers for Disease Control.

Human infections of zoonotic, or animal-borne, influenzas are “primarily acquired through direct contact with infected animals or contaminated environments, but do not result in efficient transmission of these viruses between people”, according to the World Health Organisation.

In 2012, H3N8 was blamed for the deaths of more than 160 seals off the northeastern coast of the United States after it caused deadly pneumonia in the animals.

BBNaija: UK Police Probe Kaffi For Attending Reality Show Without Permission

Big Brother Naija star, Khafi Kareem, is being probed for misconduct by the authorities of the Metropolitan Police Force, UK, for her participation in the show in 2019.

According to BBC, Kareem who is a constable in the Metropolitan Police Force faced a panel on Monday at the Empress Building in west London.

It was learnt that hours before going on the show, PC Khafilat Kareem called one of the Met’s most senior officers asking him to reverse an order for her not to do so.

However, the Met said she went on the programme “without authority”. The force is carrying out a misconduct hearing.

At the hearing, Kareem admitted that she took and surrendered her laptop to the show’s organisers but denied allegations of breaching standards in respect of “orders and instructions” and “discreditable conduct”.

It was further gathered that she asked for unpaid leave in 2019 to appear on the show as she saw it as “as a chance to promote the Met on an international basis”, the panel was told.

However, line managers felt it was not within the best interests of the officer or the force.

Anne Studd QC, for the Met Police, told the tribunal: “Having seen the UK episodes of the show, concerns were raised. But, PC Kareem said Naija was not like the UK version. She saw it as a chance to promote the Met on an international basis.

“Looking at the website and information provided, Ch Supt Jason Gwillim concluded it was not in the best interests of the Met or the officer and it would put her in a compromising situation.

“He explained the rationale and stressed she was not to take part in the show. Gwillim’s impression was that PC Kareem was disappointed but understood. She took the period of unpaid leave.”

Although permission for the leave was granted – she was told not to take part in any further auditions, interviews or shows, the hearing was told.

On 30 June, PC Kareem texted Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist and later called him to say that she had travelled to Lagos to take part in the show.

However, she lasted 77 days in the Big Brother Naija house before being evicted.

DSS Speaks On Resurgence Of Bomb Attacks, Says Religious Places Are Targets

The Department of State Services (DSS) has broken its silence on the resurgence of bomb attacks in the country.

Lives were lost when suspected Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters carried out two separate attacks in Taraba and one in Yobe State last week.

Commenting on this development, Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesman, said there were plans by “criminal elements to return the country to the pre-2015 era reminiscent of IED attacks on soft and hard targets in parts of the country.”

He said the Service had uncovered the plot to attack critical infrastructures and other “frequented public places.”

These include worship places and relaxation centres during and after the holidays.

The objective, Afunanya stated, is to achieve some self-serving interests as well as cause fear among the citizenry.

“Though there are already reported cases of such incidents in some areas, the Service has uncovered a ploy by suspected criminal gangs to forge an alliance among themselves with a view to launching further attacks on critical infrastructure and other frequented public places like worship and relaxation centres,  especially during and after the holidays and festive celebrations.

“Following these, patrons, owners and managers of aforementioned public places are advised to be wary of this development and implement basic security measures to deter the threats. While the Service is committed to the disruption of this trend and pattern of violent attacks, it will continue to partner with other security agencies to ensure that necessary drills are emplaced in order that public peace and order are not jeopardized.

“To this end, residents are enjoined to go about their lawful businesses and share, with security and law enforcement agencies, useful information on the activities of criminals.”

Osinachi: Autopsy Report Out, FCT Seeks Legal Advice

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja Police Command, has revealed that it transferred the case of the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The 42-year-old ‘Ekwueme crooner’ passed away last Friday, April 8, in an Abuja-based hospital.

Following her death, her close friends/family members alleged that she died in the hospital while treating herself after her husband kicked her on the chest during one of his many physical attacks on her.

Subsequently, her Husband, Mr. Peter Nwachukwu was arrested on Sunday April 10, on grounds of suspected culpable homicide.

According to report, the case was transferred from the Lugbe Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department the following day.

However, A source has come out to shed more light on the recent development. According to the PUNCH Metro, the autopsy report had been released, adding that the police would seek legal advice on the matter

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, on Monday, said the case was no longer with the police.

She said, “The case is no longer with us. It is now with the DPP in the office of the Attorney General.”

Drunk Cop Kills 2 At Lagos Birthday Party

A trigger-happy policeman, on Sunday, shot dead two persons at the venue of a party which was organised at La Silva Bar in Gowon Estate, Egbeda, Lagos.

The incident brought to an end the birthday party as those in attendance fled for fear of arrest.

It was learnt that the policeman was drunk, but that took to his heels on realising the enormity of what he had done.

The spokesman of the police in the state, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the command was on the trail of the policeman.

He said, “I can confirm there was a shooting at the bar on Sunday night and two persons were killed. We are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting. I can assure you that those responsible will not go free. They will face the music. The commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, has zero-tolerance for such behaviour and has already given marching orders to the DPO to fish out the culprits.”

It was also gathered that the celebrant identified as Ifeanyi alias Asiwaju of Computer Village, invited the policeman to provide security at the party.

A Twitter user, @themannaman, who shared gory videos of the incident, wrote: “Some policemen called for security were the same people that shot and killed those they were called to protect…Nigeria, which way?

“Birthday celebrant invited the police for security. The said policeman allegedly while drunk wanted to shoot upwards, then accidentally shot at them.”

It’ll Be Betrayal To Nigeria If I Don’t Run For President, Says Osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has expressed that it will be a “betrayal” to Nigeria if he doesn’t contest the presidency in the general election.

Osinbajo spoke on Monday when he visited Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo, and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The vice-president stated that aside from his current position, having served as acting president for over seven months has also given him the needed experience to lead Nigeria.

“Opportunity comes once in a while. It is also a privilege to serve. Our country needs service that will bring the country out of the woods,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“Nobody can be anything without the endorsement of God. I declared my intention based on the fact that I have served for over seven months as acting president. I was given very serious responsibilities as an acting president.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, just out of his open-mindedness and his own generosity, ensured that I was given very serious responsibilities as vice-president and I also acted as president.

“In those capacities, I got to know so many things that most people will never come across — even people in government will never come across — and I gained a lot of experience on that account.

“Many times, the president, when he was away, said pointedly to me that ‘look, I don’t want to feter your discretion in any way; as acting president, you are president; just make sure you are fair and just; don’t refer anything to me; don’t ask me any questions; just do whatever you need to do’.

“Now, the opportunity has come. With the experience that I have, the connection and contacts that I have both locally and internationally, it will be a betrayal to the country not to accept to serve the country.

“Many people are dying for the country every day. If with all that has been given to me by the grace of God — all the experience — I now retire to Lagos or Ikenne to go and write my memoir, it would be a great injustice to this country.

“It will be great injustice to our country, that is why I have thrown my hat in the ring to ensure I make the best case for the position of president of Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Afenifere leader, Ayo Adebanjo has stated that if the office of the presidency was based on “merit”, only candidates from the south-east will hold the office “till kingdom come”.

Adebanjo said this on Monday in his remarks at the ‘Greater Nigeria Conference’ organised by the Nzuko Nmunna, an Igbo think-tank.

The focus of discussions at the conference was on the need to support a candidate from the south-east in the 2023 general election.

Adebanjo stated that it’s the turn of the south-east to produce the next president in the interest of fairness and equity.

“In 2014, when they were campaigning for Buhari, he said it was the turn of the north, and when we heard it, we had it for keeps,” he said.

“I am saying all these to tell you that the question of lobbying, campaigning is rigmarole. They know the truth.

“For the fact that they’re saying you have no people, I’m happy you have demonstrated that you do. But you must go and unite. You must be united. A house divided against itself will not stand.”

Imo Illegal Refinery Fire: Victims Get Mass Burial Today

There will be a mass burial for the charred remains of the victims of the illegal refinery fire in Imo State today. This is as the death toll has risen to 110.

The head of operations, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Ifeanyi Nnaji, said the latest addition was a pregnant woman whose belly bust, exposing the foetus.

Nnaji, who described the scene as horrific, said the charred remains of the victims had been gathered and would be interred in a mass grave today. He said, “We could not have the mass burial today (Sunday). It could probably be tomorrow. I am waiting for signal from the state government to undertake the exercise.” 

Nnaji had earlier told Daily Trust that, “We are awaiting the arrival of the commissioners of Petroleum and environment to perform mass burial because the bodies are decomposing.”

“It is a large market involving people from all parts of the country; and since they got burnt beyond recognition, it is very difficult to identify them. A family just came and saw one body, which they said resembled one of their own and they carried it for burial according to traditional rites.”

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday described the incident as a “catastrophe and a national disaster.”

Buhari, in a statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, directed the nation’s armed forces, security and intelligence agencies to intensify the clampdown on illegal refineries.

He said responsibility for the loss of lives and property must squarely lie with the sponsors of the illegal refinery, “who must all be caught and made to face justice.”

While condoling with the families of the victims, the community and the people of the state, the president urged community leaders and security agencies never to allow the reoccurrence in any part of the country again.
