A prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has declared that President Bola Tinubu will receive widespread backing from the southern region of Nigeria in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Igbokwe asserted that Tinubu’s re-election bid will enjoy unanimous support across the South, regardless of the political affiliations of individual states. He suggested that even territories led by opposition parties would shift their loyalty to the APC when the polls open.
According to Igbokwe, the South’s political loyalty to Tinubu is deeply rooted in the president’s influence and connections throughout the region, as well as his perceived capacity to deliver development.
“No one single state in Southern Nigeria, no matter the party it belongs to, will vote for any other party except APC in 2027. Please know this and have inner peace. It is what it is,” he stated.
His declaration followed ongoing signs of political realignment in the southern part of the country.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State was recently reported to have joined the APC from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), further fueling conversations about growing support for Tinubu.
Igbokwe’s confidence appears to be driven by this trend, and he believes more prominent defections may follow as the political climate heats up in the run-up to 2027.
His comments have added to growing speculation that several southern PDP leaders are already warming up to Tinubu’s presidency, despite partisan differences.
