The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has assured Nigerians of its capacity to meet the country’s fuel needs.
According to the President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the refinery currently has over 500 million litres of petrol in its reservoir.
Dangote made this disclosure during a tour of the $20 billion Lekki-based facility with the Zambia Minister for Energy, Makozo Chikote, on Saturday.
“We can satisfy more than the local needs of Nigeria. As we speak, we have more than half a billion litres (of petrol). We have more than N600 billion worth of stocks here today in the refinery. We have more than enough,” Dangote said during the tour at the Lekki-based facility.

He revealed that the refinery will reach its full production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day next month. Dangote also stated that Nigeria cannot consume up to 50 percent of its refined products.
The Zambia Minister for Energy, Makozo Chikote, sought collaboration with Dangote to address Zambia’s energy security issues.
Chikote stated that Zambia depends heavily on a facility in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for its fuel needs, and is looking to diversify its energy sources.
Dangote assured Chikote that the refinery is committed to supporting African countries in meeting their energy needs.
“This refinery is not only for Nigeria; it is for Africa. We must sustain the African Continental Free Trade Area deal. We are trying to see how we trade with other African countries,” Dangote said.
