The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has taken drastic measures against four of its National Assembly members, suspending them over alleged anti-party activities.
This decision was disclosed by Hashimu Dungurawa, the NNPP chairman in Kano, on Monday.
The affected lawmakers include Kawu Sumaila, senator representing Kano south; Abdullahi Sani Rogo, lawmaker representing Rogo federal constituency; Abdullahi Rurum, representing Rano/Kibiya; and Ali Maadakin Gini, representing Dala federal constituency.
According to Dungurawa, “These members were elected under the NNPP platform but have recently been acting contrary to the party’s wishes, beliefs and values.”

This statement notes the party’s concerns about the lawmakers’ actions, which are seen as a betrayal of the party’s principles.
The suspension is reportedly a result of the lawmakers’ failure to align themselves with the party’s interests, despite receiving automatic tickets during the elections.
A specific incident involving Sumaila launching projects at his university without involving party members was cited as evidence of “anti-party activities.”
Dungurawa emphasised that the party is open to dialogue and that the suspended lawmakers could be reinstated after a thorough investigation into the allegations.
