Singles: 4 Things You Must Do “Personally” Before Saying I Do!

Marriage is a beautiful thing when done right. Do some prep work before you say, “I do.” It will set a good foundation on which to build a strong satisfying married. It definitely takes time and energy but its well worth it. Your strong foundation going into married will be invaluable.

Here are 4 great points for Marriage Preparation:

1. Release the baggage accumulated through the years.

If you’re not any good for yourself, you won’t be good for anyone else. When you carry around the heavy weight of baggage, when a partner comes along you are asking them to carry your baggage with you. Now, they may be willing to help you unpack the heavy bags. Yet, how much better would it be if there were no bags of discontent, anger, jealously, and hurt to unpack because they have already been dealt with.

2. Become separate, unique, and whole all by yourself.

Dig deep to discover your purpose. Dig deep to rest in your uniqueness. Replace the garbage talk that says you are not enough and you need someone to complete you. You are enough. A mate comes along and you share your lives together. Two complete people who create something magnificent together.

3. Read every good book you can find on having a prosperous marriage.

Authors like Dr. Myles Munroe, Willard Harley, Gary Smalley, and of course Black and Marriage with Kids have awesome marriage enrichment books. Reading now allows you to begin storing tools in your marriage toolbox. It is beneficial to have some tools to work with before you get married.

Recognize and receive the gift God has for you. If he or she is not your gift keep it moving. People are not to be messed over or tried out.

4. Receive the gift God presents to you. A gift is a beautiful thing.

However, a gift does you no good if you don’t receive it. Know what your gift is supposed to look like, so you will recognize it when it arrives. For example: if you have been waiting on a blue 10 speed bike and a yellow 3 speed with a granny basket on the front shows up, you know that 3 speed is not your bike. It’s not your gift to accept, so don’t mess over it or try it out.
