At least five operatives of the Osun State Amotekun Corps sustained injuries after suspected hoodlums launched a violent attack on the outfit’s command base in Egbedore Local Government Area.
According to the corps’ spokesperson on Monday, Yusuf Idowu, the incident occurred over the weekend after the Amotekun personnel were invited by the Oniwoye of Iwoye to investigate an alleged attempt to bury someone illegally on the community’s ancestral land. Upon arrival, the officers discovered that the burial had already taken place.
However, the situation escalated when a known thug, Ismaila Aluko, emerged with a gang and attacked the operatives.
“Shockingly, a notorious and long-wanted thug, Ismaila Aluko, emerged from hiding with a gang of armed collaborators and launched a brutal attack on the operatives, injuring them in the process,” Idowu said in a statement issued on Monday.
To avoid further escalation, the injured operatives tactically withdrew to the Amotekun command office in Awo.
But the violence did not end there. Idowu explained that the attackers regrouped and returned to launch a second assault directly at the command’s premises.
“In a shocking turn of events, the hoodlums regrouped and staged a second attack on the Amotekun office in Awo,” he added, noting that the attack occurred in the presence of law enforcement officers, including the police and the DSS.
During the second wave of the attack, one operative sustained serious injuries while four others were hurt. All five were rushed to a medical facility for emergency treatment.
The corps reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the protection of communities and warned that such acts of lawlessness will not go unpunished.
