“Professionalism In Nollywood No More What It Used To Be” – Bukky Wright

Wednesday, 5 March 2025

Bukky Wright, a veteran actress, has expressed mixed sentiments about the current status of the Nigerian film business, citing a lack of professionalism.

In a recent Channels TV interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Wright stated that, while she is proud of Nollywood, she has noticed a shift away from the high standards that formerly defined the industry.

She mentioned problems like delays on set, with certain actors arriving late even though call times had been scheduled.

Looking back, she remembered a time when training academies were common, providing actors with thorough education in different areas of production.

Wright stressed the significance of self-development and passion in reaching success, recognising that while some newcomers are eager to grow, others appear satisfied with their existing skills.

However, she commended people who are dedicated to improving their craft and who aim for advancement.

She said: “I’m gonna tell you that I’m back, and I’m proud of the industry that I’m meeting? Yeah, vice versa. Professionalism, I’m sorry, I don’t really feel it like we used to. Call time is 8 O’clock and you’ll see people coming in by 12 and you’re wondering what’s going on,well they’re superstars and maybe we’re not.”
