On January 19, TikTok was banned in the United States following a federal order over national security concerns related to its Chinese ownership.
The ban temporarily removed TikTok from service, leaving over 170 million US users unable to use the platform.
It also resulted in TikTok being removed from the app stores of Apple and Google to comply with federal regulations.
However, on his first day in office, Trump issued an executive order extending the ban’s enforcement by 75 days, allowing TikTok to operate again.
Following the signing of the order, Trump told reporters that the US should receive 50 percent of the proceeds from any potential sale of TikTok through a joint venture arrangement.
On January 22, Trump expressed his willingness to consider the possibility of Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla and the microblogging platform X, buying TikTok.
