Former Chelsea goalkeeper, Thibaut Coutois, who was in action for Belgium last night in a friendly against Scotland was interviewed by journalists about his transfer from Chelsea during the post match conference. And he said the move was necessary for him to undertake new challenge in his career.
The Belgian who won two Premier league titles with the blues before moving to Real Madrid in the Summer for a fee worth around 35 million pounds was also quoted as saying: “the level at Real Madrid is higher than at Chelsea”, but he yesterday said he never meant to disrespect his former club.
He said he was misunderstood. He went on to say: “I never meant that. I just said maybe in training it goes a little bit faster but that is also the quality of Real Madrid – that is not saying Chelsea does not have quality.”
He concluded by saying he left Chelsea because he needed to be with his kids who live with his ex-wife in Madrid and hopes Chelsea fans understand and forgive him.
In his own word: ” a big factor for my decision to leave for Real was the opportunity to be closer to my two children, who live in Madrid with my ex-girlfriend, and I hope Chelsea fans can understand that.
