A 44-year-old shopowner, Andrea Rose has narrated how she successfully confronted a knife-wielding robber with a baseball bat after being cut by his knife in a fight.
Rose who has worked at Longlands Stores in Middlesbrough for six years said the incident happened while working the weekend shift.
“I thought it was just one of the locals having a laugh. He came in and locked the door behind him. I then realised he had a long knife, it was like a shiny steak knife.” Rose said.
“He said something about money and I told him he wasn’t getting any. I told him there was no money and to go away,” she said.
“We have a panic button and I knew that it would worry him if I pressed it.”
Unfazed by the attempted robber, Rose tried to push him out onto the street outside.
She said: “I started pushing him out of the door, I felt like I could have pushed him over if I’m honest.
“The knife nicked my finger and there was some blood and I think that shocked him so he left.
“I picked up a baseball bat that we have and chased him out, I was going to give him a good whack.
“I also thought about getting a photograph of him but he ran off.”
Despite the terrifying incident, Rose said there was no point where she was in fear for her life.
“It wasn’t a massive drama and I didn’t take it seriously but afterwards I was in shock,” she added.
“I’m glad it was me on shift rather than my younger daughter who also works here. But he wasn’t getting any money from me.”
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “The suspect is described as a white male, aged in his 50s and wearing glasses, a black jacket with the hood pulled up, jeans and dark grey and black Adidas trainers.
“He had a bald head and is believed to be around 5ft 6” tall. He also wore light blue surgical gloves.”
