Boko Haram Kidnapped Nigerian Scientists

Monday 31 July 2017

Suspected criminals from Islamic extremist group Boko Haram have kidnapped a group of Nigerian scientists who were exploring oil in the Lake Chad.

The precise amount of victims is not known yet. Ndu Ughamadu, the NNPC spokesperson, confirmed the abduct.

Naij News reports that a group of engineers and scientists were kidnapped close to Jibi village in Gubio Local Government Area. Now they cannot be reached using special means of communication. The spokesperson also told that kidnapped people were sub-contractors, but not NNPC direct staff. These people work in the geology department of the University of Maiduguri.

Moreover, on late Tuesday evening, many people were delivered to a local hospital in Maiduguri. Many of them were heavily injured.

This attack happened in five days after Tukur Buratai, the Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, issued a special order to arrest Abubakar Shekau—the leader of Boko Haram leader. The chief promised to arrest the most wanted criminal in Nigeria in 40 days.

The territory of oil exploration near the Lake Chad used to be controlled by Boko Haram.
