Authorities of the University of Ibadan have directed students of the institution to proceed on a two-week semester break from yesterday to Sunday, June 7 due to the fuel scarcity in the country.

The Director of Public Communication of the institution, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, in a statement issued yesterday said the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Committee of Provost, Deans and Directors.

“At its emergency meeting held on Monday, May 25, 2015, the Committee of Provost, Deans and Directors considered the current situation in the country as is affects the running of the university vis-a-vis lack of fuel to generate electricity.

“The committee advised the vice chancellor, who accepted and directed on behalf of the Senate, that students should go on a two-week mid-semester break from today, Monday, May 25 (yesterday).

Oladejo stated that the students were expected to vacate the halls of residence while the break would not affect other non-teaching activities on campus.

He quoted the Registrar of the university, Mr. Olujimi Olukoya, in a university’s special bulletin, as saying that lectures would resume on Monday, June 8, 2015.
