FROM ROMANUS UGWU
In continuation of the corruption charges placed against the former eggheads of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), comprising ex-president Sani Lulu, his vice, Amaze Uchegbulam, General Secretary, Dr. Bolaji Ojo-Oba and the technical committee chairman, Taiwo Ogunjobi, a Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday cross-examined former director general, National Sports Commission (NSC), Chief Dr Patrick Ekeji.
Ekeji who was on the witness box as a prosecuting witness was cross-examined by the counsel to Sani Lulu, Sunday Ibrahim Ameh (SAN), on various issues relating to the running of Nigerian football, with the NSC telling the court that as a supervising agency the commission under his tenure as director general only knew what the NFF wanted it to know.
Asked what he knew about the source of funding of the federation, the former NSC DG argued that the Federal Government provides the major funding required by the NFF, noting, however, that the federation sources funds from other sources to supplement government funding.
Although Dr Ekeji claimed that NSC received and approved NFF’s proposals for the purchase of two Marcopolo Buses for the use of the national teams, he however, told the court that he never saw the buses, arguing that rather than purchasing the buses from Messrs Ekene Dili Chukwu Nigeria Ltd as stipulated in the proposals and approved, NFF bought the buses from another company at a price that was higher than what was contained at the approved proposals.
