The Akwa Ibom caucus of the National Assembly has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission,( INEC ) to cancel the April 11 elections on the grounds of alleged irregularities surrounding the exercise.

They also alleged that no card reader was used in the state during the elections, which they said was against the directive of INEC

Senator Aloysius Etok, who led the caucus to address newsmen at the National Assembly pleaded with INEC to schedule new polls in the state.

The entourage which included Senators Ita Enang and Helen Esuene, who contested the governorship poll on the platform of the Labour Party disclosed that “mercenaries were brought into the state wearing uniforms and carrying arms to intimidate voters and if this is not checked it’s going to get worse as elections in the state will turn to a full scale war.

Senator Etok lamented that “as a member of PDP, I will like elections to be free and fair and we are pained by the bad name given to our state. Irrespective of parties that contested the election, we condemn the election process and its outcome. I want INEC to accept that what happened on election day is wrong.”

In his submission Senator Enang added that the people of Akwa Ibom state were prepared to vote but for the state leadership.

On her part, Senator Esuene expressed disappointment and “the lack of transparency during the elections.”
