The 53-year-old Nigerian has been overlooked for the Stallions’ job in favour of the German in an announcement made on Tuesday night

Stephen Keshi has been overlooked by the Burkina Faso federation in its search for a national team coach as Gernot Rohr was picked on Tuesday.

The German, 61, was preferred ahead of Keshi and former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac who had all been shortlisted for the role.

Keshi, whose contract ran out with the Super Eagles in June 2014, would now look to the Nigeria Football Federation for a potential renewal of his contract.

Keshi had recently spoken about his plans to lead the Stallions to their first ever World Cup appearance while also targeting the African title.

“If I am hired by the grace of God, I would want to qualify Burkina Faso for the 2017 Afcon and why not the next World Cup as I did with Togo and Nigeria? Everything is possible provided the resources and support are provided,” Keshi told Sidwaya.

The NFF has recently been dragging its foot over giving the 53-year-old a new contract and would have been relieved if he had picked up the Burkina Faso job.

Nigeria will play a friendly match against Bolivia next month but are yet to secure a substantive coach to handle the affairs of the team.
