Top seed Novak Djokovic reached the Australian Open last eight with a 6-4 7-5 7-5 win over a gutsy Gilles Muller.
The Serb, who has yet to drop a set in the tournament, will face Canada’s Milos Raonic in his 23rd consecutive Grand Slam quarter-final.
Defending men’s champion Stan Wawrinka and fifth seed Kei Nishikori also won.
Women’s top seed Serena Williams fought back to beat Spain’s Garbine Muguruza 2-6 6-3 6-2 while sister Venus saw off sixth seed Agnieszka Radwanska.
Serena next faces Slovakia’s Dominika Cibulkova, who beat two-time champion Victoria Azarenka 6-2 3-6 6-3, while Venus takes on fellow American Madison Keys.
Wawrinka overcame Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 4-6 7-6 (10-8), before Nishikori knocked out David Ferrer 6-3 6-3 6-3.
Raonic squandered two match points in the fourth-set tie-break but recovered to secure a 6-4 4-6 6-3 6-7 (7-9) 6-3 victory over Feliciano Lopez.
