Wife of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Mrs. Aisha Mohammadu Buhari, yesterday gave a condition for occupying the office of First Lady if her husband wins the February presidential election.
She said that she will step into such office if the constitution allows it. Addressing newsmen during the inauguration of the women wing of the APC Presidential campaign initiative, Mrs. Buhari said she will limit her roles to the traditional functions of a First Lady which include visiting the orphanages and caring for women and the less privileged in the society.
The programme was meant to sensitize the Nigerian women before, during and after the general elections.
She dismissed insinuation that her husband will be dictatorial if elected insisting that her husband will govern the country according to the dictates of the Nigerian constitution.
She said: “When my husband is elected as the president of this country, he will rule the country within the rule of law based on the constitution of the country. If the office of the First Lady is constitutionally recognized, he will not tamper with it but if it is not that’s okay. For me I will perform my duties and role as the wife of the President of Nigeria traditionally.”
“The wife of the president has some traditional roles, like receiving guests, visiting orphanages, helping the less privileged. Also, leading the fight for the right of women and and malnourished children, infant mortality, kidnapping and girl child trafficking.”
