Seventeen persons have been killed in a crisis that erupted between Fulani herdsmen and people of Agatu in Benue State.
Daily Sun gathered that the Fulani herdsmen had crossed from Loko in Nasarawa State to Agatu killing eight people in Abugbe, two in Okoklo, four from Ogwule, one in Ocholoyan and two in other villages.
The development, according to our source had resulted in mass exodus of hundreds of Agatu people from the crisis area to safer havens.
State Assembly member representing Agatu constituency, Hon. Sule Audu who confirmed the report alleged that the Fulanis were still planning to launch more attacks on the Agatu people.
He appealed to the federal government to come to the aid of his people as well as wade into the matter with a view to bringing lasting solution to the perennial crisis.
Confirming the report, Satte Police Public Relations Officer, DSP John Bako said there was an influx of suspected Fulani who invaded Agatu from Loko in Nasarawa State.
He however noted that only five persons were killed by the invading Fulani herdsmen who came and left the area by boat in a guerrilla manner.
The PPRO said normalcy had already been restored to the affected areas as more mobile policemen had already been deployed to keep surveillance.
