Abians want Otti as next gov – Ubani

Abia State indigenes at home and abroad are rooting for the emergence of the former Managing Director of Diamond Bank, Dr. Alex Otti, who is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the February 28, elections.

He is up against the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, who is being propped up by the incumbent governor, Chief Theodore Orji.

As the election draws nearer, Abians insist on change, arguing that the outgoing PDP administration in the state did not meet their expectations of governance.

One of those clamouring for Otti as the next governor is an Aba-based businessman, Chief Kenneth Ubani.

Ubani, a textile materials merchant, lamented that Aba, hitherto the commercial nerve centre of Abia State, has literally been in comatose in the last seven years.

“Today in Aba metropolis, it is near impossible to connect the various business districts by road, because the roads are not motorable anyway. The situation is a reflection of bad governance.

“Therefore, we the residents of Aba are fed up with the situation, and that’s why we want a change. We the business men in Aba have resolved to vote Otti for a change, because we know that any vote for PDP in the next election is a vote for the old order, which we are determined to do away with,” he said.

An importer and an indigene of Ubakala, Umuahia, Mr. Celestine Odimba, said his people have resolved to enthrone change by voting a technocrat as the next governor of the state. Like others, Odimba believes that Otti is Abia’s best bet at the moment, insisting that anything to the contrary is a return to the old order.

In the same vein, New Jersey, USA-based scholar, Mr. George Chukwuemeka, advised Abians who have the opportunity of participating in the next election to vote a candidate with no association whatsoever with the outgoing government.

“I do not live in Nigeria, but I have asked questions from our people back home. From the things I hear, I have the conviction that Dr. Alex Otti, the man that left his plum bank job to vie for the governorship is our best bet as governor at this time. We need someone who will rescue Abia from the shackles of bad governance.
