Agbekoya offers to rescue abducted Chibok girls

Thursday 29 May 2014

Nigeria’s frontline farmers and hunters group, Agbekoya Farmers Association of Nigeria, has said that it is ready to help curb the menace of Boko Haram and bring back the kidnapped girls from the custody of the insurgents if the Federal Government consents to its offer.

In a communiqué issued and signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the association, Olatunji Bandele, after its emergency National Executive Council meeting on the state of insecurity in the country, the association said that its traditional military tactic was capable of subduing the fire might off the sect.

The communiqué read in part: “The President General of the association, Kamorudeen Okikiola, is confident that Agbekoya can assist the Federal Government to suppress Boko Haram violence and recover the young girls, using traditional means.

“At the meeting, Okikiola praised President Goodluck Jonathan for embracing the assistance offered by foreign nations but regretted going out of the nation’s shores to seek help when a traditional organisation like Agbekoya exists in the country.”

The President General also called on the Presidency to invite his members for a meeting on how Agbekoya can assist the FG. Bandele told our correspondent that another meeting was held on Wednesday where the members once again called on the FG to consider the offer as genuine gesture.
