Amaechi is chairman of opposition forum –Jang

The faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), led by Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, has restated its claim to the leadership of the forum. In an apparent reaction to Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi’s declaration on Monday that he remained the authentic chairman of the forum, Governor Jang, who scored 16 votes as against Governor Amaechi, who polled 19 votes in the forum’s election conducted last May, described his Rivers State counterpart as the chairman of the opposition governors’ forum.

The Plateau State governor further declared that he was not surprised that the Presidency recognised his faction because it was in line with the objectives behind the founding of the NGF.

Jang recalled in the statement signed by the media officer of his faction of NGF, Kassim Yakubu, that  the forum was formed for peer review and to work in consonance with other tiers of government to provide needed social and economic elevation to the Nigeria people.

The statement read in part: “Governor Amaechi has turned his team into an opposition group. They are now obsessed with the Presidency and the Federal Government. Even the recent retreat they had, turned out to be like an anger management conference to vent against the Presidency and the Federal Government.

“Nigerians want peaceful and sensible co-existence between the tiers of government and the recognition that governors are elected primarily to run their states and they know that the Nigeria Governors’ Forum under the Chairmanship of Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State is clearly in line with the national mood.”
