Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has emphasised the vital role of prayer in safeguarding Nigeria, stating that the nation would be in a much worse condition if not for continued intercession.
Speaking during RCCG’s monthly Thanksgiving service and a special prayer session for security and paramilitary forces at the national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Pastor Adeboye addressed growing skepticism about the impact of prayer on national issues.
“Some say, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting — where is the result?’ I laugh,” he said. “If we had not prayed, Nigeria would have been in a far worse state. Let’s not stop.”

Delivering a message titled “Shadow of the Almighty,” he declared that RCCG has enjoyed a unique form of divine preservation, which he described as a supernatural covering.
“There is a God who rules in the affairs of men,” he said. “If those praying would pause for just one week, the difference would be terrifying. Keep praying. God controls the hearts of kings.”
Pastor Adeboye shared several testimonies that, in his view, confirm God’s invisible but powerful protection over the church. He recalled how during a flood disaster in the United States, a house marked for RCCG fellowship remained untouched while surrounding buildings were destroyed. “House after house was flooded, but house number eight — the only one with a sign that read, ‘House Fellowship of RCCG holds here’ — remained untouched,” he recounted.
He also mentioned a recent fire at Otedola Bridge in Lagos that destroyed several structures except for one RCCG building. “The buildings before and after were consumed, yet the RCCG building was left standing. That is not a coincidence — that is divine covering,” he said, as images of the incident were displayed to the congregation.
While acknowledging that divine protection may not always be visible, Adeboye assured worshippers that it is real. “Your security is only assured in Him. Whether in peace or war, young or old, the Almighty casts a shadow of protection over His own,” he stated.
Earlier, his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, led heartfelt prayers for Nigeria’s peace and for those in positions of authority. “Let’s ask God to show our president mercy and give him peace, so that he may enjoy his time in office,” she prayed.
The service concluded with a focus on honoring security and paramilitary personnel and reinforcing the church’s ongoing dedication to praying for the safety and prosperity of the nation.
