“NNPP Is Dead, Kwankwaso Wants To Return to APC” – Ganduje

Wednesday, 16 April 2025

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) politically irrelevant, insisting the party is no longer functional.

Ganduje alleged that Rabiu Kwankwaso, NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, is now seeking to rejoin the APC.

He made the remark in Abuja on Monday during a meeting with members of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) at the APC national headquarters.

He described the NNPP as a failed political experiment and hinted at a possible reconciliation with Kwankwaso, suggesting the APC would be open to receiving him back into the fold.

“The NNPP is dead. And it will soon be buried very, very soon. I’m looking at where we will bury the body, the coffin has already been constructed. What remains now is to dig the grave. And already they are digging the grave very, very soon. Even like that, the so-called NNPP national leader, he too, he says after losing everyone, he wants to come back to us, we will welcome him, because he’s coming back home,” Ganduje said.

In contrast, Kwankwaso has repeatedly denied plans to abandon NNPP. While addressing party executives in Abuja, he reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and dismissed any notion of defecting. According to him, it is Ganduje who may soon consider switching sides.

Similarly, the NNPP’s spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, told DAILY POST that the party is open to dialogue but currently has no ongoing discussions with any other political group.

The 2027 election landscape is already shaping up as both major parties trade accusations and predictions ahead of the next political contest.
