The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State have jointly deployed 2,300 personnel to maintain peace and order during the Easter celebration.
In separate statements released on Thursday in Benin City, the FRSC Sector Commander, Cyril Mathew, and NSCDC State Commandant, Agun Gbenga, confirmed that 950 officers from the FRSC and 1,350 operatives from the NSCDC have been mobilized to key locations across the state.
Mathew explained that the FRSC deployment includes 513 regular marshals and 437 special marshals. He revealed that mobile courts will also be set up across the state to ensure quick prosecution of traffic offenders.
“The aim is to reduce road crashes and maintain sanity on our highways,” he said. “We urge all road users to obey traffic rules and avoid reckless driving. Drivers must adhere strictly to road traffic rules and regulations to avoid road crashes.”
He added that the FRSC’s special patrol will run from April 18 to 23 and will be supported by patrol vans, ambulances, and power bikes.
“We are fully equipped to respond swiftly to emergencies and traffic issues throughout the period,” Mathew noted.
NSCDC Commandant Agun Gbenga said his agency’s personnel will be positioned at worship centres, recreation grounds, and other public gathering spots to ensure maximum security.
“We will not leave anything to chance. Our intelligence units are on full alert,” he stated.
“The command is committed to securing lives and property before, during, and after the Easter celebration,” Agun added.
“We ask residents to support our efforts by remaining law-abiding and reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest security post.”
