The Federal Government has committed to deploying all necessary resources to address the escalating insecurity in Borno State.
This follows a troubling increase in violent incidents across the region, particularly impacting the local population.
During a visit to Maiduguri on Friday, Defence Minister, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, emphasised that the government would take immediate steps to tackle the security challenges.
The visit, which was directed by President Bola Tinubu, saw Badaru, accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff Gen.
Christopher Musa and other senior military figures, meeting with Governor Babagana Zulum to assess the situation.
Badaru stressed the government’s resolve to support the region, noting the importance of reinforcing security measures to prevent the resurgence of insurgency.
He pointed out that the recent wave of violence is jeopardizing the progress made in the rehabilitation of displaced persons and the region’s broader recovery efforts from years of Boko Haram and ISWAP militant attacks.
“This powerful delegation is here on the President’s directive,” Badaru said during a meeting with Governor Babagana Zulum.
“Our mission is to determine what is needed whether in manpower, logistics, or equipment to stop this new wave of insecurity.”
He added, “The President has ordered us to ensure every necessary resource is made available to halt this disturbing trend.”
Badaru also acknowledged that the recent violence posed a significant threat to the safe return and rehabilitation of displaced persons in the region.
“We must ensure that the successes we’ve achieved are not reversed,” he emphasized, underlining the importance of continued security efforts.
Governor Zulum welcomed the federal government’s involvement, expressing optimism that the coordinated visit would lead to renewed action in addressing insecurity.
He praised the federal government’s commitment and pledged ongoing political support to the military, stating, “This visit gives us hope. With stronger collaboration and resilience, we can overcome these new challenges.”
The Defence Minister assured that a comprehensive approach, including a continuous flow of security reports directly to the President, would be implemented to ensure prompt action and restore stability in the state.
