The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old girl, Princess Okolie, and her boyfriend, Prince Atigbi, for faking her kidnap and collecting a ransom of N2 million.
According to the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, “The girl faked her kidnap so that they could get money from her parent.”
The command, in a statement on Wednesday, noted it received a complaint from Mrs. Oliko Joy that her daughter, Princess Okolie, left home on December 30, 2024, and didn’t return.
The next day, the parents received a call claiming Princess had been kidnapped, with the kidnappers demanding a ransom of N2 million.
The police immediately launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of Prince Atigbi after he collected the ransom.

The statement added that, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, immediately directed the command’s special Anti-kidnapping and cyber-crime squad to ensure that the victim is rescued unhurt and the suspect arrested.
Upon interrogation, Prince Atigbi revealed, “I was not an actual kidnapper but was playing the script of my girlfriend, Princess Okolie.”
Princess was subsequently arrested and confessed, “I faked my kidnap so that they could get money from my parent.”
Also, Edafe wrote via X, “The two suspects Princess and prince are dating, the girl went to her boyfriend’s house on 30th December 2024, and she told her boyfriend to call her parent and tell them she has been kidnapped, he did and demanded for #2,000,000 ransom. The mum reported to the command that her child her been kidnapped, we did our job as usual and boom The mum got the shock of her life. See what children of these days do to their parents.”
