Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has raised an alarm that bandits from the Northwest are relocating to the State due to the ongoing military operations in their zones.
Makinde, however, vowed to deal decisively with the fleeing bandits, ensuring they do not find a safe haven in the State.
Speaking at the 2025 annual inter-faith service for workers in Ibadan on Monday, Makinde noted that the state faced significant security challenges in 2024, including fire outbreaks, armed robberies, and kidnappings.
He assured residents that his administration would redouble its efforts to address these issues in 2025.
Makinde revealed that he received a security briefing indicating that some bandits from the Northwest were relocating to Oyo State.

He said, “During a security briefing this morning, I learned that some bad elements from the North-West are relocating here due to military heat in their zones. But we will find and deal with them.”
The Governor emphasized the seriousness of the situation, recalling an incident where bandits camped less than two kilometers from his birthday retreat location.
Makinde charged traditional rulers to report any suspicious movements in their areas to security operatives, assuring residents of their safety.
He stated, “To our traditional rulers, who are custodians of your domains, and to all residents, this is no joke. If you see suspicious movements, report them immediately. For us in Oyo, bandits will have no foothold. I will not sleep until every inch of this State is safe.”
