Ibadan Stampede: “Queen Naomi Was Treated Like A Terrorist” – Ooni Of Ife’s Ex-Wife’s Sister Shares Ordeal

Wednesday, 25 December 2024

Simi Oluwaseyi, sister to Queen Naomi, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, has spoken out about her sister’s recent detention, raising concerns over her wellbeing.

It should be noted that Naomi was arrested in connection with a tragic stampede in Ibadan, which occurred during a children’s funfair that she had organised to bring joy to children during the Christmas season.

The event, which had been planned for 10 a.m., saw attendees arriving as early as 4 a.m., leading to overcrowding and chaos.

This resulted in the deaths of 35 individuals. Naomi’s arrest followed the incident as part of the ongoing investigation into the causes of the stampede.

Taking to her Instagram story section on Wednesday, Simi expressed sympathy for the grieving families and highlighted the health challenges Naomi faced while in custody.

She revealed that Naomi collapsed during her third day of questioning by the Department of State Services (DSS) and required immediate medical care.

According to Simi, prior to her sister’s court appearance, a medical professional confirmed that Naomi’s blood pressure was critically high.

She further noted that Naomi was denied access to her phone and family during her time in custody.

In her statement, Simi wrote, “All my sister did, was try to put smiles on the faces of children this Christmas which she has been doing for years unfortunately this year didn’t play out the way we planned it. Innocent children lost their lives, I am deeply sorry about this sad occurrence my heart bleeds for them all.

“However my sister was arrested and detained for more than 6 days, And on the third day she collapsed, when she was being interrogated by the DSS, and was rushed to the hospital and yesterday she was arranged to go to a magistrate court and the judgement was for her to be remanded.

“One of the counts againt her was murder the children Funfair was supposed to start 10am, but people got there as early as 4am. The sad incidence occurred around 6am to 7am.

“The doctors at the police hospital checked her BP and it was very high up till yesterday when they were taking her to court when she was being detained she had no access to us, my mummy had to beg everyday before she was allowed entry.

“She was not allowed to use her phone i had to beg for her son to be allowed to see her, at the police hospital she wasn’t supposed to appear before a magistrate court but an high court everyone I have contacted keeps telling me it’s a bailable offense but somehow the law is saying otherwise yesterday at the court she was being treated like a terrorist, more than 40 police men were on ground, only my mum and brother was allowed to sit in court.”
