Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s reforms, stating that the President is determined to take on challenging tasks to lead Nigeria forward, regardless of the cost.

Dogara made this statement on Saturday at the 14th convocation ceremony of the Achievers University, Owo.

He cautioned Nigerians against abandoning Tinubu’s reforms, simply because “things are hard.”

According to Dogara, President Tinubu’s Local Government reforms and tax reform bills are a step in the right direction.

He described the Local Government tax reform as a “master stroke,” saying, “We have practised this model of leadership that is based on weakness. It has taken us nowhere.”

Dogara further stated, “The president’s reforms in local government have reinforced more leadership to the third tier of government. What the president did with the local government was a master stroke.”

He commended President Tinubu’s courage, saying, “To give in to cheap argument because things are tough and he should back off is cowardice. We are having a leader who is courageous.”

Dogara also expressed optimism about President Tinubu’s leadership, stating, “With what President Bola Tinubu has done, whether it’s the freeing of local government areas from the choke-hold of economic stagnation the states had hitherto subjected them to or the groundbreaking bold tax reforms proposals he had placed before the National Assembly.

“I see a glimmer of hope that we may be dealing with a leader who is prepared to lead with unbridled courage even at personal cost.”
