The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Vanguard has called on Yahaya Bello, former Governor of Kogi State, to appear before the court to face the 19-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N80 billion.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been unable to arraign Bello at the Federal High Court in Abuja, prompting the commission to seek a trial in absentia.
Rasheed Sanusi, coordinator of the APC Youth Vanguard, in a Sunday statement expressed concern that Bello’s failure to appear in court is “embarrassing” the APC.
“Bello’s consistent disobedience of court summons and forum shopping are now being misinterpreted as a result of protection by the Presidency,” Sanusi said.

Sanusi highlighted the arrests and subsequent releases on bail of ex-Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku and ex-Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, questioning why Bello is shunning court summons.
“Who are those in the Presidency allegedly protecting Bello?” he asked.
The APC Youth Vanguard urged Bello to voluntarily appear for arraignment or face forced cooperation from inter-agency efforts.
“This seemingly state of helplessness is embarrassing to our Party, the Presidency, and the country as a whole. It is a global shame. Enough is enough!” Sanusi emphasized.
The EFCC has been persistent in its pursuit of Bello’s trial, with the Court of Appeal ordering him to show up for arraignment.
The Commission still maintains that Bello must have his day in court to answer to the alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges.
