Court dismisses PDP’s suit Against Tokunbo Abiru
L-R: Senator Adetokunbo Abiru and Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi (BOG)

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday dismissed Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) suit seeking to stop Senator Tokunbo Mukhail Abiru of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) from representing the people of Lagos East Senatorial District at the Nigerian National Assembly.

In a five-hour judgement, the Presiding Judge, Justice Chuka Obiozor, upheld the argument of Senator Abiru’s lawyer, Mr. Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) that the PDP case was statute-barred.

Justice Chuka Obiozor also claimed that the argument made by Mr. Ebun-Olu Adeboruwa (SAN), that the nation’s electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot transfer a voter’s registration details is not correct.

Recall that Senator Adetokunbo Abiru won the Senate Bye-Election against a close contender, Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi who came second in the election with 89,204 votes to 11,257 votes margin in December 2020.

Senator Adetokunbo Abiru has been sworn in by the Senate President.
