Insurgency: Lai Mohammed Laments Global Powers’ Efforts At Frustrating Nigeria

Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has expressed that Nigeria has been finding it difficult to fully overcome Boko Haram and other insurgents because it has not been able to acquire needed weapons to combat the insurgents.

The Minister made this known on Monday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital while addressing journalists after he paid a courtesy call to Governor Samuel Ortom at the Benue State government house.

He stated that the country may continue to be at the mercy of these terrorists until it gets the needed global support to acquire equipment and platforms to effectively wage the war.

He declared that Boko Haram and other terrorists enjoy international backing and Nigeria also needs international support and cooperation to tackle them.

“We will never stop protecting lives and livelihoods. However, we must also understand that we are dealing with terrorists who are financed globally and we also need more support from global partners.

“For instance, Nigeria had made attempts to acquire better and more effective platforms to deal with the terrorists, but for one reason or the other we have been denied these platforms, he said.

The minister also condemned the “mindless killing of innocent Nigerian farmers by extremists in Borno last week.’’

“What actually happened in Borno was quite unfortunate, but we also have to look at the strategy of the terrorists.

“Terrorists use media and publicity as oxygen and so when they go on this kind of mindless killings, a dying terrorist group will suddenly spring to life.
