Nigeria’s upper legislative chambers on Tuesday said it would shutdown sports betting company, Bet9ja, if it fails to honour its invitation for a second time.
This was made known by the Chairman, Senate committee on youth and sport, Senator Obinna Ogba, PDP, Ebonyi, during the verification of Loto companies with license to operate in the country.
According to Senator Ogba, it was sad that the sports betting company had refused to honour its invitation, a second time.
“Clerk, write to Bet9ja again. If they did not honour your our invitation again, we will ask the National Lottery Commission to seal their offices, ”he said.
The call on lottery companies was in a bid to see how to assist the lottery commission to generate money for the federal government, said,” We wanted to see bet9ja. They can’t runaway.”
He revealed also that this verification was as a result of series of complains against the betting companies — Some of them have not been making remittances to the government.
While some others “ got the licenses but they are not operating. The new regulation only give them one year to start operations. ”
