Champions league defending Champions, Real Madrid, suffer a shock defeat at the hands of CSKA Moscow in their second Group G match. They now sit second on the table as a result of superior head to head against Roma, who sit third but on the same points.
The host needed just 2 minutes to open the scoring after Toni Kroos’s terrible backpass was picked up by Nikola Vlasic, on loan from Everton, and he fired past Keylor Navas from just inside the penalty area and that proved to be the only goal of the match.
Real Madrid who were without injured Gareth Bale, pushed for an equalizer but found the CSKA Moscow backline too solid to break.
There was wild drama when CSKA goalkeeper,Igor Akinfeev, was sent off four minutes into injury time for two yellow cards in quick succession for dissent but the Los Blancos still couldn’t force a draw in the encounter. They have now gone three matches without a win and without scoring, across all competition.
With the win, the Russian outfit are now the group G leader.
