Why don’t you step down for Buhari, if its about seniority, Lamido fires Atiku – Nigerians react

Tuesday 11 September 2018

A former governor of Jigawa State and People’s Democratic Party Presidential aspirant for the forthcoming 2019 election, Sule Lamido, has said he would never step down for his brother the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, also the party’s presidential aspirant.

The former VP on Monday, while speaking with PDP leaders in Dutse, Jigawa State, had said that a junior brother shouldn’t be in an electoral race, contesting against his elder brother, hence begged Lamido to step down for him(Atiku).

He said:

“Junior brother cannot contest against his senior brother, the junior brother instantly stepped down for his brother due to his loyalty.’’

However, Lamido speaking through his media aide Adamu Usman made it clear there’s no way he’s stepping down for Atiku. He added that Atiku might be older than him age wise but, he’s older than Atiku politically.

His words:

“While it is true he (Mr Abubakar) is older than me age-wise, I’m senior to him politically because I was in the House of Representatives in 1979 when he was an employee of Nigeria Customs Services.

“And if age is the criterion for standing election then he should drop out for Buhari.”
