Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has opened up on why the club were happy to sell Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.
The Portugal international had been at the club for nine years, and guided Los Blancos to a sensational four Champions League crowns during his time in Spain’s capital.
But in the summer he joined Juventus is a deal worth €105million, following Zinedine Zidane out the door of the historic club, after he stepped down as boss.
The transfer was a surprising one given Ronaldo’s brilliance, and the fact he played such a major role in their most recent Champions League win.
He is getting on in age, now 33, but still has a lot to offer and is undoubtedly a miss. But Perez, looking at the situation from a financial point of view, sees things a little differently.
He explained how the huge offer from Juventus meant that selling Ronaldo was the ‘best thing that happened’, claiming he didn’t expect to make more than €100million for his services.
“When we all believe that the best thing is this that has happened, we reach an agreement. At Madrid nobody gave more than €100million.
“He wanted to go by subjects people and the most that has gone has been for that amount, we have not had many more offers.”
