Osinbajo narrates political journey, says he was in the scene for a long time before he aspired for office

Friday 14 September 2018

Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday met with young aspirants at the State House. The VP, who said he was pleased with young people aspiring to join politics and told them, he “absolutely like the idea of young people getting a quota in the party structure to run for office.”

Osinbajo recounted his journey into politics, telling them how he started way before he even graduated from the university. He said “as a young person, I belonged to several pressure groups. When I graduated, I participated in various pressure groups, human rights organizations, anti-corruption and civil society groups of every kind. ”

The VP also narrated how he didn’t aspire for office, many years after joining the political party but remained involved with their activities. Osinbajo agreed that young people can and will make a difference politically but it wouldn’t happen all of a sudden.

In his words:

When political parties started forming, I didn’t aspire, but I remained involved. Young people can make a difference. Nothing is going to change overnight, but we can make efforts to change the process. We can do a lot more, but it depends on our commitment.
