Social Democratic Party(SDP) presidential aspirant and former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke has reacted to news that the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has banned cell phones in polling units.
Speaking at a meeting of stakeholders in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, the chairman of the commission said it had adopted this resolution in order to curb vote buying and selling.
However, speaking via his twitter handle on Tuesday, the former Rivers State governor said the new move would encourage rigging and not the other way around.
He wrote:
INEC bans phones and cameras at polling stations. QED, let the rigging begin!

Also reacting to the news, newly appointed chairman of Senator Bukola Saraki’s media council for his presidential campaign, Mr Doyin Okupe says such can not stand.
Okupe, who was formerly a Senior Special assistant to former president Jonathan said that INEC doesn’t have such powers yet. He also said that Nigeria is not yet a Banana Republic and that such pronouncement totally infringes on the rights of Nigerians .
He wrote:
BAN ON PHONES
Inec has no powers to make laws in Nigeria especially such that concerns fundamental rights of citizens. This is not yet a Banana Republic. The ban cannot stand.— Doyin (@doyinokupe) September 18, 2018
