In his reaction, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), said though he couldn’t understand why the process failed, he was shocked by the outcome.
“I have no idea on why it failed. I am shocked that it failed. I really don’t know why it failed,” he said.
To Yinka Odumakin, National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, the recall failed because it was politically motivated and did not follow due process.
He said:
“The recall was politically contrived and therefore did not follow due process.
“The final death knell was the treatment meted out to him on the eve of the verification which backfired.”
Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the recall failed because Dino Melaye, as a lawmaker, has done a lot for his people and they consider him a leader ahead of the state governor, Yahaya Bello.
He argued that though Dino may have his weakness being human, the people still like him for speaking out against injustice and giving them good representation.
“The recall failed because the injustice in the land has failed. Dino Melaye is one man and a representative his people love so much for bringing dividends of democracy to them.
“He is more of a leader to them in Kogi than the governor in any form of measurement.
“He has always been there for every Kogite and Middle Belter as a whole. No one stops a child of God who has come to stay.
“His recall failed because Nigerians wanted him, because the spirit of Nigerians is behind him.
“Dino Melaye has his faults but his good deeds supersede his bad side as human.
“He is a man of the people, but he must learn to conclude one battle before the other.
“Nigerians wanted him, even the presidency knows what he did for them to come into power.
