A brave bride lifted her arms in celebration as she married her soulmate in a tear-jerking snap just hours before she died of cancer.
Wearing a wedding dress with an oxygen mask strapped to her face, proud Heather Lindsay, 31, couldn’t contain her joy as she wed David Mosher, 35, in front of loved ones.
The touching gesture was captured by bridesmaid Christina Karas just moments after Heather tied the knot with the love of her life.
Heather remained defiant despite her year-long battle with chest cancer leaving her barely able to say her wedding vows.
She tragically passed away just 18 hours later at St Francis Hospital in Connecticut, US, on December 22.
Christina said:
“That moment right there was like, ‘Death, I’m not afraid of you! I am so in love and I am going to celebrate that love right now.”
She posted the powerful image on Facebook with the caption:
“With triple negative chest cancer throughout her system, the unstoppable Heather Lindsay gathered all of her strength for one final act – to marry Dave Mosher in the Hospital Chapel.
“Witnessed by an extraordinary family, friends as well as the many doctors and nurses who cared for her, Heather passed away less than 24 hours later.
“Her indelible spirit and the gifts she gave this world will surely live on. Thoughts, prayers, healing and so much love to her family and friends. You earned your wings, Heather.”
Heather and David met at a swing class in May 2015 and quickly became inseparable, with David planning to propose in December 2016.
But Heather was diagnosed with chest cancer before he got the chance and she was given the devastating news the disease had spread to her lymph nodes.
David said:
“I left the plans as they were. I proposed to her.
“We had the toughest year of our life.
“She struggled with her cancer through the traditional chemotherapy.”
In September this year, the couple discovered Heather’s cancer had spread to her brain and lungs and the couple set their wedding date for December 30.
But after medics advised David to move the wedding up as Heather may not make it, the pair got hitched in the hospital’s chapel last Friday, the New York Daily News reports.
Speaking of the photo of his new wife, David told WFSB :
“It reminds me of someone who is crossing the finish line of a marathon or something.”
He added:
“Nobody thought she would’ve made it that far.
“She proved them all wrong and that’s what that photo says to me.”
