The shooters of the Divisional Police Officer of the Makera Division in the Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, Jibrin Mohammed, had yet to be found on Tuesday, two days after he was shot by suspected armed robbers.
Muhammed, a Chief Superintendent of Police, was shot on Sunday in the arm by the suspected robbers who were on a motorcycle.
Another policeman, whose name had yet to be ascertained, was said to have also sustained gunshot injuries.
A source said, “The DPO was leading his team on a patrol when the incident happened at a place called Unguwar Dairu, about a kilometre from the police division. The suspected armed robbers opened fire on the police patrol team.”
Credible police sources also told our correspondent that the injured DPO had been taken to an undisclosed hospital in Katsina for treatment.
Efforts were made to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gambo Isah, to confirm the development, but he could not be reached on the telephone.
It was gathered that the attack on Mohammed was not the first as he was attacked in his former division in the Kankara Local Government Area.
