Titi Abubakar reveals incidence that got her husband transfered from Lagos to Kano when Buhari was head of state

Thursday 6 December 2018

Titi Abubakar, wife of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has pointed out an issue, in which her husband was victimized for carrying out his duty, while he was a Custom officer in 1984.

According to Mrs Atiku, a Northern traditional ruler had in the 80’s imported 53 suitcases into the country, and Atiku who was head of custom officer in charge of the Murtala Mohammed airport, Lagos, insisted that the suitcases be searched – A stand that earned Atiku serious trouble, which led to his transfer from Lagos to Kano.

The wife of the former VP made this known, while speaking in Abuja, during a courtesy visit to the former Federal Commissioner for Information and Niger Delta leader, Chief Edwin Clark, and other leaders of the South South, Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Middle Belt Forum, in Clark’s Asokoro residence on Wednesday.

She said:

“When Atiku was in Customs, there was one incident that happened in the 80’s when 53 suitcases were brought in by a traditional ruler during the administration of the present president and he (Atiku) insisted that those suitcases must be opened.

“But they were very angry with him and they called the then Minister of Finance, Onaolapo Soleye, and they said they should throw him out of the job.”

“But the minister said to them, this is one of the finest officers he had, that he would never throw Atiku out. That was what the man did. They said, ‘it’s ok, if you don’t want to throw the man out, transfer him immediately.  Atiku was that day transferred to Kano.”
