Ikeogu Oke, winner of 2017 NLNG Prize, is dead

President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned the passing of Ikeogu Oke, winner of 2017 NLNG Prize. Oke hailed from Ohafia, Abia State was a guest performer at the World Poetry Day 2018 celebration in Abuja.

Reacting to his death, Buhari in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, his spokesperson urged “all Nigerians, the literary community and lovers of art to honour Ikeogu Oke’s memory by imbibing the didactic message of his works.”

The president also prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed author.

President Muhammad Buhari is deeply grieved to learn of the passing of one of Nigeria’s renowned poets and winner of the 2017 NLNG-sponsored Nigerian Prize for Literature, Ikeogu Oke.

The President encourages all Nigerians, the literary community and lovers of art to honour Ikeogu Oke’s memory by imbibing the didactic message of his works.

He prays God to console all who mourn the departed poet and grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.
