Portugal began their UEFA Nations league in style by dispatching 2006 World Champion, Italy, courtesy of a lone goal scored by Andre Silva. The Portuguese whose previous stint at AC Milan was uneventful before switching to Sevilla in Spain was a torn in the flesh of the Italian defence.
The Italian side who are still looking for their first competitive win since last year kept their defence line compact and were looking for counter opportunity to break. But the portuguese side had other ideas as they kept pressing hard and harrying the Italian side.
The deserved opening came for the Portuguese when Bruno stole the ball from one of the Italian players midway into their own half and breezed into the Italian defence. He squared the ball to Silva and was left with the task of slotting the ball beyond the Italian goalkeeper.
