NECO Releases June/July 2017 SSCE Results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the June/July 2017 Senior Secondary Schools Certificate (SSCE) with a total of 745, 053 candidates representing 70.85 percent out of the entire 1, 051, 472 that sat for the examination having at least 5 Credits and above including English and Mathematics.
Candidates from the French speaking African countries who sat for the NECO SSCE will not be able to gain admission into any Nigerian university because none of them could make it Credit level in English and Mathematics.

Out of the 1, 051, 472 candidates that sat for the examination, Edo and Bayelsa states came second and third respectively with 84.61 percent and 84.52 percent having 5 Credits and above including English Language and Mathematics.

Registrar/Chief Executive NECO, Professor Charles B. U. Uwakwe disclosed this as he officially announced the results of the June/July SSCE examination at the councils’ headquarters along Minna-Bida road, Minna Niger state.

Uwakwe said the number of candidates that passed with good grades represents 1, 11 percent improvement in the overall candidates’ performance when compared with the 2016 student’s performances in all the subjects.

Candidates were examined in 76 subjects and 50, 586 candidates representing 4.81 percent were involved in examination malpractices, representing a 0.52 percent increment in the number of exams cheats compared to the number last year.

Comparative analysis of the entire student’s performance in the examination for 2016 (69.74%) and 2017 (70.85%), Uwakwe said shows that there is 1.11 percent improvement in the general performance of candidates.

He said, “Out of the 1,055,988 candidates who registered for the examinations in Nigeria and other countries only 1,051,472 sat, as only 745,053 (70.85 percent) got 5 credits and above including Mathematics and English Language.
