Fulani Herdsmen kill farmer in Ondo State

Tuesday 8 August 2017

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspected Fulani herdsmen for the killing of a farmer, identified as Omowole Orimisan, at the Hands Down area of Ore, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the widow of the victim, Abiodun, reported the killing last Thursday.

It was gathered that the suspected killers attacked Omowole while he worked on his farm.

The incident reportedly sparked off a protest by the residents of the community, who threatened to take the law into their own hands if something urgent was not done about the incessant killing of farmers in the area.

Joseph said after the matter was reported at the Ore Police Division, men of the command arrested the four suspects, identified as Ibrahim Yussuf, 19; Soja, 20; Halti, 20; and Musa 25.

“Another suspect, who was identified as Dere, is still at large and we are making efforts to arrest him,” he added.

The leader of Ikale residents in Ore, Chief Owoleye Obilana, said the overbearing attitude of the herdsmen needed to be addressed, urging the government and security agents to be proactive.
