The accused was ordered to be remanded in prison by Chief Magistrate W.B Balogun of Igbosere Magistrate Court 7, Lagos.
Olufodun’s arrest was ordered by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, Adamu Ibrahim following a petition by members of Ifako/Iju/Ojokoro MOALS and arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on 3-count charge of felony to wit murder and attempted murder.
Police prosecutor, DSP Eshiet Eshiet informed the court in charge No G/37/2017 that the accused committed the alleged offence in 2006 at Ifako/Iju/Ojokoro Area of Lagos. Eshiet told the court that problem started for the accused when he conspired with others still at large to kill Ibrahim Tajudeen and attempted to kill Salabiu Adeleke for insisting that he should vacate his seat after serving as chairman of MOALS for the mandatory four years.
Eshiet said the constitution of the Ifako/Iju/Ojokoro MOALS stipulated two years term for elected chairman which is renewable for another two years. He said the MOALS members elected Olufodun as their chairman in 2000 to serve for two years and that he was re-elected to serve for another two years.
Eshiet said that after Olufodun served the mandatory four years term, he refused to vacate office and that when the victims and others confronted him while he refused to vacate office to enable them elect a new chairman, he allegedly recruited thugs to attack them and in the process killed Tajudeen and attempted to also kill Adeleke.
Eshiet said the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 410, 213 on 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The plea of the accused was not taken and Chief Magistrate W.B Balogun ordered that the accused be remanded in Ikoyi Prison, Lagos pending advice from DPP’s office on the matter.
Balogun adjourn the case till 15 August, 2017.
