a-natural-way-to-boost-testosterone_300If you’re a middle-aged man who is a little overweight, scientists in Ireland have found a simple and natural way to boost your testosterone level. It doesn’t involve drugs and it also helps prevent diabetes.
It entails losing weight.
“Doctors should first encourage overweight men with low testosterone levels to try to lose weight through diet and exercise before resorting to testosterone therapy to raise their hormone levels,” says researcher Frances Hayes, M.D., professor at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin.
The study involved about 900 men with prediabetes (also called impaired glucose tolerance). Researchers had men in the study exercise for 150 minutes a week and cut back on their calories for one year.
After a year, the number of men with low testosterone decreased from about 20 percent to 11 percent.
The men in the study lost an average of 17 pounds. The increase in testosterone levels in that group correlated with decreasing body weight and waist size.
“Losing weight not only reduces the risk of prediabetic men progressing to diabetes but also appears to increase their body’s production of testosterone,”
