73 year-old man beheaded after losing two children to flood

Sunday 23 July 2017

It was double tragedy for the families of Eliaku as a 73-year-old man, identified as Obadiah Eliaku, was beheaded on his farm at Akuzor Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, just as two children died in a flood in the state.

Eliaku was said to have gone to his farm with his son, Cheta, when he was attacked and killed.

His son, who escaped, raised the alarm which attracted people in the community. But by the time the villagers got to the farm, it was the decapitated body of the victim that was found.

A community leader in the area, Chris Udeze, told SUNDAY PUNCH that the incident might not be unconnected with a land dispute between Nkpor and Oze communities in Oyi Local Government Area.

Commenting on the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Garba Umar, urged the villagers to follow due process to resolve land disputes, while promising that anyone guilty of killing Eliaku would be brought to book.

Meanwhile, two children of the same parents aged 12 and 6 have been confirmed dead in a flood that swept across Okpoko, New Haven Layout in Ogbaru.

The flood, occasioned by a downpour between Friday and Saturday, left several property damaged in Onitsha, Owelle Aja and Oduke in Obosi and Okpoko areas.

President General of Okpoko community, Linus Ezenwamma, blamed the flooding on indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
